Auditing Managing Agents

Managing Agents are appointed by the building owner or resident-led organisation to run and manage the building and services in accordance with the terms of the lease and statutory requirements on their behalf. The services provided by the Managing Agent will be covered within the Management Agreement, and duties include areas relating to finance, lease compliance, leaseholder relationships, repair and maintenance, day-to-day health & safety and fire safety compliance and repairs and maintenance.

While many resident-led organisations and building owners rely on Managing Agents for support, it’s crucial to understand that not all Managing Agents have the necessary skill set or insurance to provide comprehensive advice when it comes to fire safety and as a result we are supporting clients (PAPs) with auditing their appointed Managing Agents to monitor their effectiveness and competency.

Fire Safety Management Audit

An audit is a systematic process for gathering facts and will help you to identify gaps in relation to risk management, governance and internal control processes as well as highlight areas for improvement.

Key drivers for auditing fire risk management:

  • Assurance that all legislative requirements have been identified and that the organisation is compliant.
  • Improved overall management of fire-related risk across multiple sites.
  • A more efficient distribution of resources to enable risks to be managed to as low as reasonably practicable.
  • A holistic approach to fire risk management in premises from design, through to construction and occupation.
  • Assurance for stakeholders that fire risks are being well-managed and that the organisation can react to changes in the fire risk profile.

With specialist knowledge of the technical and legal landscape as well as extensive auditing experience, Ashton Fire will undertake a comprehensive gap analysis or audit against any current arrangements, providing detailed reports with actionable steps for improvement, so as to identify and improve fire safety practices.
